After celebrating our first anniversary hosting within the short-term rental market, we decided to share our experience. In this blog post, we'll explore our story and share five compelling reasons why we decided to take the exciting step into the world of hosting.





  1. Financial Freedom

Our journey towards financial freedom began when we discovered the potential of the short-term rental market. We were drawn to the golden opportunity to generate substantial income by renting out property on platforms like Airbnb and VRBO. We had no experience, but we knew the lifestyle we wanted for our future existed in the form of STR.

The income potential of short-term rentals exceeds anything we can ever achieve with our W-2 jobs. Hosting unique and well-maintained accommodations that can command premium rates, especially in high-demand tourist destinations, was exactly the market we were looking for. The upside to real estate is just too steep to deny. This additional income could complement our W-2 salaries, enabling us to pay off debts, invest further, and inch closer to the financial freedom we have always craved.

  1. Flexibility and Reclaiming Our Time

Despite the incredibly rewarding lifestyle our family is afforded by our W-2 jobs, Angie and I yearn for a better work-life balance and more flexibility. The corporate grind is taking away the little time we have for our personal pursuits and precious family moments.

Our journey into the short-term rental market gives us the promise to change our own future. Growing a portfolio that allows us to manage properties the way we believe they should be means we could set our own schedules and live life without the limitations of traditional employment.

  1. Personal Growth and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Our dip into the short-term rental market isn't just about financial gains; it is a journey of personal growth and entrepreneurship. We are excited to embrace the challenges and rewards of running our own business.

Our first property has become our classroom, where we have acquired valuable skills in property management, marketing, and customer service. This has not been an easy year. There has been a LOT of stress, hard work, education, patience, and most importantly, love. We have loved every step of it. And we want to share more.

  1. Diversified Income Streams: Our Safety Net

Relying solely on our W-2 jobs makes all of us vulnerable to economic uncertainties and job instability. Diversifying our income streams should be a priority for all of us.

Venturing into the short-term rental market is a significant step in achieving this diversification. This strategy can become a safety net, ensuring that we have financial stability even in unpredictable economic times.

  1. Achieving Our Dreams

Above all, our decision to enter the short-term rental market is about turning our dreams into reality. We attempted to enter the market in early 2021 (More about this in the next post). Investing in short-term rental properties is unlocking new possibilities for us. We began by acquiring our first property, Peak of Joy Lodge, in the incredibly desirable Sevierville, TN. When the property isn't rented out, we get to enjoy it personally, and we have done almost all of it using other people's money.


Our journey towards purchasing our first short-term rental property while working our W-2 jobs was not without its challenges, but it marked the start of a transformation in our lives. We discovered the potential for financial freedom, flexibility, personal growth, and diversified income streams.

Our story is not perfect. But it is just the beginning, and we hope to inspire anyone who dreams of breaking free from the traditional employment grind. We want to show that with determination, strategic planning, and a willingness to take calculated risks, we can all embark on a path that aligns with our personal goals and aspirations.
